  ok, everyone said that it was the dad who shot coyotito, but the man still had a hold of the gun when it fired because kino had the knife. so how could it possibly be kino who shot him??

  good question snhamler, the thing that dosn’t make sense is that when Kino heard the cry, he had done away with all the men that were below the cave.
  See, he shot one in the face, one was cut in the neck by Kino’s knife and the other guy he struck in the head “like a melon”. So then he heared the cry from the cave after he shot the guy in the head. So, the guys weren’t there and Kino was on the ground. It said that the babies head was shot off. Hmmm, who had the gun? Kino! Has anyone figured it out yet?

  ok, so im at the part where juana and kino are frakin out because the pearl is like “possesed” or sumthin. so, their tryin to figure out whut their gunna do, like sell it or somethin. why do they have this weird felin about the pearl? is it like a religion thing or somethin?

  I think you really have to slow the whole sequence down…Keep a clear understanding of the landscape (setting), Kino’s experience with firearms etc.
  The main point is that if you were a district attorney, whom could you prosecute for the baby’s death, keeping in mind “beyond a reasonable doubt.”

  For Virus, wealth creates jealousy and other problems. They are feeling the pressure of having wealth they’re not supposed to possess.

  From what I interpruted, I think Kino may have shot the baby. But accidentally. In the sequence with Kino and the three trackers, Kino took care of the first guy with his knife, but the gun still fired. So that could have been a reasonable solution as for the death of Coyotito. The second fellow was struck in the head with the gun Kino had taken from fellow #1. The third guy, on the otherhand, was climbing to the cave when Kino shot at him. The man fell backwards, not shot or not dead. Kino walked up to him and shot him between the eyes. It was then that he heard the baby cry. When Kino fired at the man climbing to the cave, could he have misfired, fired into the cave and accidetally shot the baby instead of his intended prey?

  for wat i read it was kino did it but i dont think he really was thinking. he was just really up set and he shot the wrong person. so that is who i think did it.

  i think that they both killed the baby. when kino got the first guy with the knife theycould have both shot the gun trying to kill each other. if they were squabling over it in could have went of accidentily like Dre said ^

  I’m not too sure, yeah Kino did have the gun and shoot but the guy he stabbed in the throat shot over where Coyotito and Juana was. right when he shot, Kino jumped and took the gun as he stabbed the guy in the throat. the guard that woke up first and told the first guy that it was probably a a baby coyote crying, went into the water and tried to go up the pencil waterfall but Kino shot him and he fell into the pond. then the third guy looked at him and tried to get away but Kino aimed the gun right between his terrified eyes and shot. when he calmed down a little he could hear Juana… maybe she didn’t know who had the gun, and wanted to keep quiet until she was sure that the guy with the gun was Kino. It would be reasonable because he told her to be quiet and she knew that he might die. so when she heard the gun shot (after the first guy shot the baby) she didnt know who was shot and wanted to keep quiet, then when she saw the man fall from the waterfall, then saw the third guard get shot, she knew that kino was still alive and realized that it was ok for her to make noise. thus having a reasonable… reason for who shot Coyotito.

  It doesnt really make sence to me when it comes to the question “who killed the baby?”…is it kino or the guy that kino was trying to shoot….

  Im deffinitly gonna have to agree with what char says…..im gonna have to ask the same question that she did…im a little lost with that part too on who killed the baby….so who did?

  i can agree with what sav says..but how can they both kill them…it says in the story that kino killed the baby..but im still a little lost woth the whole who killed who thing….

  a shot rang out, juana screamed, kino lept into the air shreikijg…ahhhhh!!! the next thing i know, coyotito’s head had been blown off!!! if the mom is holding him, how would he get shot without a trace of a wound on juana???

  Why, if the baby was supposedly shot by the guy when Kino was in midair then why did his wife have a such late reaction to the actions that were going on around around her. The gun was only shot off twice. Once when Kino used the gun to shoot the guy. And then when Kino lept onto the other guy and the man shot off the gun. So what are the chances that the bullet went into the cave, shot the little kid in the head, blasted his head off and not hit Juana. (Anyone know what gun was used in the story.)

  According to Dre, Kino fired the gun at the guy that was climbing to the cave. It said that one of the men tumbled back into the pool(the one that he shot in between the eyes. It said that he fired INTO the pool. The chances of misfiring are very little(even for someone that has had no firearms experiance) it said that he tumbled into the pool so the gun must have hit it’s target.
  And about the boat question about the boat, it seems as if it was sabotage.

  i dont quite understand what youre trying to say because if that were the case then how could the bullet be delayed that long ? cause if he shot and missed and then ran to him and then shot him inbetween the eyes then how could he hear the scream after the second one if it was the first shot?

  Who kill the baby!!! Was Juana holding the baby when he was shot? Why didn’t she try to help him?
